Farewell Billy Graham

Last Thursday morning my mom came downstairs and shared with me that Billy Graham had passed away. She was crying about it because she felt his loss personally. Later that day we went to town and ate some lunch with the ladies where my mom talked about it and started crying again. One of the other ladies made a comment that sat with me. She was now feeling fearful because she felt like he had been protecting us somehow. That his godliness actually was impacting God's view of us.

If you don't know who Billy Graham is he was a person who chose to obey God and traveled all around the world sharing God's love. He exemplified a Christian leader and led our country into a revival in the late 1940's. He famously led huge crusades, or large gatherings, where he bluntly shared the truth of God's word to the world. The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association estimated that he’d preached to 215 million people over his lifetime. He traveled to countries otherwise closed off to freedom of religion. He sat with the leaders of governments and power. He influenced the Christian culture that we live in today.

"He was a beacon of light for people. He was faithful all through his life to the day he died at 99 years old. He proved his love of our country and went to pray with several presidents. He was on call for them always available. His voice was full of authority and grace and love all from one man."

Legacy

I didn't grow up during this era of revival but I can see how Billy's life impacted my family along with the world.

What I find so comforting is not only how Billy lived His life but what he left behind. He challenged millions of lives from a stage but he is still changing lives through his kid's lives and those close to him. He was God honoring in discipling the people around him while raising them up to change the world too.

I don't know about you but after I pass I want to have people say "She was one of the most Godly women I ever knew". I want to disciple right where I am and impact those around me through the act of obedience.

Thank you, Billy Graham, for being such an inspiring light to our world. Enjoy being home.

A few quotes I find inspiring //

"God has given us two hands, one to receive with and the other to give with."

"Being a Christian is more than just an instantaneous conversion - it is a daily process whereby you grow to be more and more like Christ."

"God proved His love on the Cross. When Christ hung, and bled, and died, it was God saying to the world, ’I love you.’"
